Los Ajaches Natural Monument is located on the south, south-west side of Lanzarote.
Consists of a volcanic massif important for its beauty, landscape, scientific interest (Palaeolithic settlements - raised beaches - Barranco de las Pilas) and fossil forms from the lesser Pliocene (wasp nests).

Throughout the surrounding area, the value of the natural elements and cultures of this zone, dating back to past eras, become noticeable.
Today the remains of corrals and field ditches (gavias - traditional system of cultivation) can still be seen, and closer to the Papagayo beaches are the old ruins of ancient lime pits.
The flora include gorse,
bush (Salsola), bitter spurge, Indian cactus...
The fauna include the Gallotia lizard, endemic to the islands, the Fuerteventura lizard, Berthelot's pipit, crows, kestrels, titmice...
Other protection agencies: ZEPA (special protection zone for birds) for the conservation of wild birds.
Ecologically sensitive area.
