CARNIVAL 2009 PUERTO DEL CARMEN

GREEEEAAAATTTT Carnival is nearly here!!! I found out the dates for the Puerto del Carmen carnival 2009. This year from the 26th to the 28th of February, party, party, party!!! On the 26th it will start the whole festival, the "Murgas" those groups that normally take advantage of the funny party to criticize politicians and some decisions that they have made. Gala party of "Carnival Queen", Gala party of "Drag Queen, etc...
The best date, at least for me, is the parade, which it will be on the 28th of February. This day, you can enjoy the best parade ever seen as there will be all the "Murgas", " Comparsas", musicians, the Carnival Queen, and all the people dancing with their best fancy dresses on the middle of the street. This is surely worth to be seen.

Hi
Went to the carnival this year in ‘Carmen and had a brilliant time. Planning to go again next year but I have an important question:-
How sure are you that the dates are correct?
Reason I ask is that other sites I’ve visited quote the same dates but add that they have got to be confirmed. I’d like to book flights now as they are relativeley cheap but am reluctant till the dates are definite.

Carnival in Carmen is always 6 weeks before Easter, so if you look on next years calender, find Easter Saturday, count back six weeks and you will find the Saturday for the parade. There are activities and concerts in Arrecife all week prior to the final parade,but the last Saturday is the best, in my opinion. The only reason there is some confusion about dates this year is that there are major road works along the main beach road which may not be completed by Feb, but if I know the locals, they wont let that stop them partying. I’ve been going to the island since 1981 and have already booked my ticket.

We’ll be in puerto del carmen on these dates with the kids, Will the carnival, especially the parade, be suitable for them (age 10 & 13).

Yes, the parade is suitable for kids as well. Usually starts at 5pm. Great fun for the whole family. Regards.
