Fuerteventura is an island in the Atlantic Ocean and is part of the autonomous Spanish community of the Canaries. Together with Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago, it forms Las Palmas, one of the two provinces in the Canaries.
The capital of Fuerteventura is Puerto del Rosario (once known as Puerto Cabras (Goat Port), the name was changed given that it sounded disrespectful), and is where the Cabildo Insular or island’s government resides as well as other institutions.
Fuerteventura is known for having the best beaches and unlike the other islands, is not mountainous.
