Gran Canaria is an island in the Atlantic Ocean and is part of the autonomous Spanish community of the Canaries. Together with Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, it forms the province of Las Palmas. The Chinijo Archipelago is also part of this province and is made up of the little islands of La Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Lobos Island off Fuerteventura. Gran Canaria has become the second most populated island in the Canaries.
The capital and main city is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the largest number of inhabitants at 377,203.
Gran Canaria stands out as the island with the most activity combined with a busy ambience with beaches to the south and unequalled mountain trails.
