The wineries detailed on the following list boast the "denomination of origin" Lanzarote, which was granted on December 13th 1993. This title guarantees the quality of some superb wines renowned throughout the world.
It should be noted that the vines cultivated in the Canaries are for many largely unknown in the world of wine making. Not everyone knows that the Canaries is a wine growing region, difficult to equal in the world, and despite its small size has a large varietal wealth including varieties that have disappeared from other places due to the Phylloxera plague, which missed the islands.
Historically, one of the most familiar is the malvasía grape. It was the queen variety in the past époque of splendour when they were exported from Tenerife to the British market and were sung about by Shakespeare, one of whose most popular characters, Falstaff, chose to die drowning in a barrel with the heady aroma of wine from the Canaries. According to historic accounts, it seems that white wine was not dry, but rather sweet with high alcohol content. It should also be noted that not all the malvasías in the Canaries have the same origin since other varieties of this grape were introduced last century but have the same degree of quality and laudable personality.
