Ethnographic Museum Tanit.
Over the years, José Ferrer Perdomo and his wife Remy
de Quintana Reyes, founders of this museum, have been collecting
and looking for every kind of object and information in defense
of that valuable treasure of our ancestors so that their customs
can never be forgotten.
This village was formerly located in the western slope of the
mountain Mina and was called " Ajei " word that in
the language of the native "Majos" meant small village. |

| The "ethnographic museum
Tanit" is located in the old wine cellar of a traditional
XVIII century canary house. It shows a wide array of goods,
household equipment, furniture and fittings used by our
ancestors, from the firt inhabitants called "Majos",
to the first half of the XX century.The knowledge of the
customs of our ancestors, of the artefacts related to
their work, social and religious life, help us to understand
the roots of these people who learned to survive in a
surrounding of volcanic ashes.

The symbol "TANIT" is engraved
on a stone block in the well of La Cruz, in San Marcial
del Rubicon, Lanzarote. This sign is a symbol of the Carthaginian
goddess "TANIT", considered goddess of love,
fortune and fertility.
In the museum you can also find an art gallery, a wine
cellar, a press with a wooden joist, a rope basket, a
chapel, a library, a shop, a garden and a stage for typical
dances. This big house was one of the first buildings
in San Bartolome. |
