PLAYA BLANCA´S NEW HARBOUR
22 March 2010 – 17:23
The contract for the extention and improvement of Playa Blanca´s harbour has been awarded and is expected to take two years to complete. The project will improve a new ferry pier of 300 meters, increasing the number of moorings for pleasure craft and provide better boat yard facilities.
After the new works, the ferries will have their own harbour separated from the Marina as now they will dock in a new space. At the same time other engineers were awarded with a contract to proceed with a similar project at Corralejo´s Harbour in Fuerteventura.

Great news , the current harbour is really too small but will it get built in the current economic climate?? i dont think i will hold my breath..also hope it doesnt affect the few samll excellent restaurants down by the Old Harbour…

Loss of ocean view, spoiling the lovely walk along the ocean front, fumes from ferries, lorries and cars, light pollution, noise pollution. A road would be built between the original harbour and the new. The current mayor has discounted the possibility of a container port, but rumours abound…….I could go on. Owners in the vicinity are protesting, tourists are protesting, signing a petition, the media campaign is ongoing. A specialised lawyer is acting on behalf of Puerto Chico Owners.

My previous comments were against the new Ferry Port Plan 7. This is the option prefered by the current Mayor, to build a completely new Ferry Port in front of Puerto Chico between the existing harbour, and the Iberostar hotel with the disadvantages mentioned already.
The plan to extend the existing harbour if it needs to be at all is more welcome than Plan 7. The situation has changed since Bill’s comment 19 July 2010. I hope this clarifies the position. Therefor e-mails supporting the extension of the current harbour and against Plan 7 would be gratefully received.
