An unrivalled test of strength, character and mind-body excellence. The motto says it all: “Normal limits do not apply”.
Nowhere else is the awesome power of nature to create and to destroy more apparent than on Lanzarote. One of the seven Canary Islands belonging to Spain, Lanzarote is only 120 km from the West Coast of Africa. On this island that captivates visitors with its dramatic scenery, picturesque villages and unique style, probably one of the toughest races in the world is held every year.
The race is fully supported by the Canarian and Local Government. Club La Santa holds the license for the Ironman Lanzarote Spain and is the organizer of the race.

It was the only Spanish wine awarded a prize and it received the third highest mark.
The Canarian El Grifo wine was the only Spanish wine to be awarded a prize at the 2011 World of Malvasia Wine Competition. This world-renowned competition, sponsored by the International Vine and Wine Organisation (OIV), took place recently in Croatia. The local Lanzarote-produced wine was given the third highest score in the competition, winning a total of 89.83 points.
The El Grifo wine with its delightfully strong aroma is both complex and persistent. It is a blend of traditional wines from three vintages; 1956, 1970 and 1997. This sweet malvasia was made using grapes which had been slightly ‘raisined’, that is allowed to dry whilst still on the vine then the fermentation process was halted by the addition of vinic alcohol.
It is the second time that a Canarian Malvasia wine has received such a high accolade in this International Malvasia Competition, after also receiving an award in 2009.
This is the third gold medal won so far this year by the El Grifo winery, a Lanzarote Denomination of Origin producer, in competitions held by the International Vine and Wine Organisation.
