Situated in Yaiza the southern-most municipality on the island, is Playa Blanca, once a fishing village and today a tourist centre with a recreational port. Its coast is made up of a series of beautiful beaches.

PUNTA DE PAPAGAYO

This series of wild beaches of fine white sand produce a sensation of shimmering brightness that can be found around Punta de Papagayo in the extreme south of the island. At the edge of a volcanic ash covered landscape, the silence seizes this jagged and inhospitable coast.

These beaches are considered the best in Lanzarote.

There is a €3 entry fee, and vehicles must be left in the supervised parking area next to the beach.

PLAYA BLANCA

Playa Blanca is a small beach about 100 m. by 8 m. that has lent its name to the largest tourist area in the south of Lanzarote. Located in the middle of the old village, it has a definite maritime flavour.

Fine golden sand and calm waters offer good conditions for diving with a notable sea bottom. The boardwalk is lined by restaurants with terraces overlooking the sea. Beach services include showers and rentals of hammocks and sunshades.

LAS COLORADAS

Las Coloradas beach together with the castle of the same name can be found in an untouched setting in the south. Its medium grain black sand and picon (small lava stones) create a striking contrast to the golden sands known as the Papagayo beaches that surround it.

It is 410 m. long by 7 m. with calm waters.

Situated to the east of Playa Blanca and contrary to its name (Golden Beach), the sands of Playa Dorada are in fact a fine white. This is a man-made beach of about 300 m. by 10 m. between high and low tides, well protected with calm waters.

Rental services for hammocks, sunshades and water sports equipment, showers and parking.

FLAMINGO

Flamingo beach is found in the Playa Blanca tourist zone, 200 m. by 20 m. wide, fine white sand with calm waters, and offers a fairly complete range of services: boardwalk, showers, telephones and rentals for sunshades, hammocks and water sports equipment.

There are also hotels, apartments and restaurants. Accessible by guagua (bus), parking area.

LA MULATA

La Mulata is a combination of fine golden sand with picon (small lava stones) and pebbles; 80 m. long by 5 m. with calm waters.

Located in a semi-developed area with a range of services that include a boardwalk, accommodations nearby and parking area.

LA CAMPANA

MONTAÑA ROJA

Montaña Roja beach, situated in a semi-developed part of the Playa Blanca tourist coast, measures 260 m. by 7 m. wide.

EL GOLFO

El Golfo has two beaches. The main beach, and the largest, owes its charm to the Charco de los Clicos, the famous green lagoon.

A 300 m. long and about 30 m. wide windy beach with strong waves; medium grain black sand and picon (small lava stones).

Beside it is an inlet of some 100 m. which sits close to the houses of El Golfo village. This beach is separated from the other by a large red rock and is where the local fishermen dock their boats. Both beaches border on but remain outside of the Timanfaya National Park.

Janubio beach, together with the lagoon of the same name and the larger area of the island’s saltworks, can be found in the untouched southern area of Lanzarote designated as a protected natural space.

Medium grain black sand with picon (small lava stones); windy with strong waves, it measures less than a kilometre in length with an average width of 30 m. Caution must be taken in bathing due to the strength of the sea in this area.

Accessible by guagua (bus); parking available.
