The Canary Islands are considered the Hawaii of the Atlantic and many of the best breakers can be found around the island of Lanzarote. The best surfing season here is the winter, from November to the end of March when the waves reach 1.5 to 4 metres high. The rugged coasts in the north-east, north and west produce a great number of breakers that vary in difficulty, good for all levels of ability.
The most appropriate place to begin surfing is without a doubt Famara Beach with its availability of schools and rental shops. Also in the same area is San Juan Beach where the major classifiers on the WQS calendar, the 6* LaSantaPro, take place. As well, La Santa is where the best curls on the island can be found.
