Lanzarote’s top 5 must see places
Lanzarote’s natural beauty is one of the reasons why it attracts so many visitors every year. You can’t plan a holiday on the island without getting to know these unique landscapes that will stay in your memory. In our Top 10 of Lanzarote, we have selected these five places that are not to be missed:
-
Timanfaya National Park
The volcanic environment of this area is impressive. The colours of the terrain will leave you speechless, and although there is a protected part that is not accessible to visitors, there is a large area that you can discover in the way you prefer: by bus, on foot…
-
Las Grietas
Here you can see how the slope of the Montaña Blanca volcano has cracked to reveal the different layers of lava from the different eruptions it has undergone. This huge fissure, 600 metres high, allows you to explore a unique narrow corridor of solidified lava.
-
Cueva de los Verdes
Inside a volcanic tube 6 kilometres long is one of the most impressive places in Lanzarote. Only part of it is open to the public, and here you can visit three galleries that give us an idea of how the lava found its way through in this unusual way.
-
Jameos del Agua.
In this impressive work of architecture by César Manrique, the building has been integrated into nature to create one of the most beautiful places on Lanzarote. It is both a natural space and an art centre, a volcanic tunnel with caves that house an auditorium, a restaurant and a salt water lake.
-
Los Hervideros
These caves are the result of the ‘collision’ between the lava ejected by the volcanoes and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. When you get close to this cliff and observe it, it looks like the sea is boiling, hence its name. The spectacle is at its best when the sea is rough, but it is also best to visit with caution.
Top 5 Things to do in Lanzarote
What original things can you do in Lanzarote during your holidays? In our Top 10 of Lanzarote, we suggest five activities that will not leave you indifferent:
-
La Geria
You will be amazed to see how the vines are cultivated in volcanic terrain. The contrast of colours is incomparable. We suggest a walk to discover the area or a visit to a winery to learn about the production of Lanzarote’s native wines.
-
Playa Famara
This is one of the best beaches on Lanzarote, with six kilometres of fine, blond sand. It is ideal for swimming, but above all for beginners in water sports such as surfing. Why not take a few lessons during your holiday?
-
Playa Papagayo
This is another beach you must visit in Lanzarote, not only because of its white sand and transparent waters, but also because its shape makes it a beach with small waves. How about exploring it from the inside? A guided snorkelling tour is one of the most original and surprising activities you can do when you visit Lanzarote.
-
Puerto del Carmen
This is one of the most touristic areas of the island and therefore it has the most leisure activities on offer. We have a different idea for your holiday: sign up for a dolphin watching cruise, an unforgettable experience!
-
Los Ajaches
The ecological value of this area is incalculable and it has one of the most impressive landscapes on the island. We recommend that you visit it on a cycle tour to get to know this unique natural area.
