What makes Punta Fariones in Lanzarote special?
Punta Fariones is one of the most special places on Lanzarote because it is a spur of rocks and lava that juts out into the sea, like a large block detached from the northern tip of the island.
This point, together with the southeast coast of La Graciosa, forms a sea passage known as a ‘river’, which is why 500 metres away we find the well-known Mirador del Río, from where the views are difficult to explain in words.
The Risco de Famara, La Graciosa and the nearby islets converge in this area, which together with the Atlantic seabed form the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park, an area of incalculable environmental value.
How to get to and what to see in Punta Fariones?
Punta Fariones is located next to the Órzola lighthouse, with privileged views of La Graciosa. Therefore, to get here by public transport, the nearest bus stop is at Muelle de Órzola (line 09).
You can also go on your own and do some of the routes on foot, enjoying the marvellous views along the way. Of course, always follow the signs along the path, with the right equipment for hiking and paying attention to the weather conditions, as it is an area where it is not unusual to find clouds, fog and wind.
When is the best time to visit?
Although any time of the year is a good time to visit Lanzarote because of its incredible weather conditions, to enjoy Punta Fariones to the fullest autumn may be the best season, as the temperature is very pleasant, the wind calms down and there are fewer tourists.
Why is Punta Fariones a reference point on the island?
Punta Fariones is the northernmost point of Lanzarote, that is to say, the most northerly point of the island. This makes it a reference point, where one of the main lighthouses of Lanzarote is located, near the town of Órzola.
What activities can you do?
Visiting Punta Fariones in Lanzarote allows you to take advantage of the excursion to get to know other of the island’s most interesting spots. In addition to the aforementioned Mirador del Río viewpoint or the town of Órzola – from where the sea excursions to La Graciosa depart – you can also visit nearby towns such as Haría or the village of Teguise.
A visit to the Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes caves is also a must, as is a visit to Famara beach, one of the most impressive on the island.
Take the opportunity to take a catamaran or ferry cruise to La Graciosa or to go into the waters of the Atlantic if you like diving and snorkelling or if you want to try these activities for the first time.
Tourist opinions
Those who visit Punta Fariones in Lanzarote agree on the natural beauty of this enclave. It is worth spending at least one day of your holiday to visit the northernmost point of the island, although the waters can be rough and dangerous, so it is not always the right place for a swim.
Take home as a souvenir of your visit some spectacular photographs of this place, unique postcards that you won’t find anywhere else on the island. An adventure you won’t forget.
