7 must-do excursions if you visit Lanzarote on your own
Choosing excursions in Lanzarote on your own is not so easy, as it is inevitable to leave something out. We suggest seven excursions to do in a week’s holiday. You’ll love this proposal but you’re sure to want more for your next visit to the island.
1. Teguise and Famara
You can start your Lanzarote excursions on your own by visiting Teguise, the old capital and one of the most beautiful villages on the island. Its whitewashed streets and local craft shops will win you over.
To end the day, nothing better than a sunset on the beach of Famara. The scenery around you is incredible, with an impressive cliff bordered by dunes.

2. Cactus Garden and Haría
The Cactus Garden, the work of local artist César Manrique, brings together more than 4,500 specimens of this plant. Its colours contrast with the dark volcanic sand, creating an unforgettable landscape.
Take advantage of the afternoon to visit the town of Haría and the Valley of the Thousand Palm Trees. Don’t miss this characteristic spectacle.

3. Timanfaya National Park
Of course, one of the must-do excursions in Lanzarote on your holidays on the island is the one that takes you to the Timanfaya National Park. Find out about guided bus tours to get to know this unique place in depth.
4. La Geria and volcano route
For visual spectacles, there is La Geria, which is home to an impressive number of vineyards cultivated in volcanic soil. The contrast of colours with the dark surface will leave you open-mouthed. You can take the opportunity to visit a winery and taste the exquisite local wines (as long as you don’t have to drive yourself).
We also recommend that on this excursion you take a route around the Caldereta and Caldera Blanca volcanoes, ideal if you like hiking. It may be best to start your day here, as it will take you several hours to complete the route.

5. Mirador del Río and La Graciosa
You can take a day trip on your own in Lanzarote to discover La Graciosa. All you have to do is take the ferry from the port of Órzola and in half an hour you’ll be at one of the most impressive spots in the Canary Islands archipelago. The journey is worth the effort, but once you’re there, you’ll be able to enjoy some truly beautiful beaches.
On the way back, you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset at the Mirador del Río viewpoint. From there you will have unique views of La Graciosa.
6. Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes (Cave of the Greens)
You can’t leave Lanzarote without a trip to the Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. The cave takes less than an hour to visit and allows you to see passages and natural formations that are the result of volcanic eruptions.
In the Jameos del Agua you have another of César Manrique’s jewels, difficult to describe in words. Just enjoy every corner of this marvellous place.

7. Beach route
Of course, you have to dedicate your last day on the island to a tour of some of its beaches. Playa Mujeres, Playa Papagayo and Caleta del Congrio are some of the most recommended.
The white sand and crystal-clear waters of these places make up landscapes that you won’t be able to forget on your excursions on Lanzarote on your own. They will be a holiday to remember!
