Where is the Barranco del Quiquere?
Just three kilometres south of Puerto del Carmen, one of the most touristy areas of the island, is one of its most spectacular natural secrets. This is the Barranco del Quiquere de Lanzarote and it is a group of volcanic stone coves located on the slopes of some cliffs.
It can be reached on foot, from the Varadero in Puerto del Carmen, on a 15-minute walk along a path, or you can go by car, via the southern exit in the direction of Puerto Calero and take a turning to the left that leads to a dirt road.
What characterises this part of Lanzarote?
Barranco del Quiquere extends along a rocky coastline but the access to its main cove is safe, as it is through a staggered space.
You will find calm waters that are very appetising, as it is difficult to escape from the sun in any other way than a swim, and there is hardly any breeze in this area.
Of course, access to the sea must always be made through the rock, which means encountering the occasional sea urchin, so don’t forget your booties!
You can also enjoy the other coves of Lanzarote’s Barranco del Quiquere but access to them is a bit more complicated, so you must have good agility to get through the natural stone paths.
What not to miss if you visit?
A swim in the Barranco del Quiquere in Lanzarote is a must, but you should know certain peculiarities of this place because taking a dip is not the only appetising plan you can enjoy.
For starters, it’s a nudist cove , which means that you won’t be wearing a swimming costume to get into the Atlantic waters.
But if there is one thing that characterises Barranco del Quiquere, it is the biodiversity of its seabed, which makes it a perfect place for scuba diving.
Moreover, at one of the most popular dive sites you can see up to three wrecks, with the corresponding reefs that have formed around them.
If you are a sports lover, you can also take advantage of the opportunity to go jogging on the path that takes you from Puerto del Carmen to the Barranco del Quiquere ravine.
And at the end of a morning of adventure, there’s nothing better than a gastronomic treat at one of the restaurants in the port of El Varadero, in La Tiñosa, which is just a five-minute drive from the cove and offers numerous options to satisfy your appetite.
Does the entrance to the Barranco del Quiquere cost?
Visiting Lanzarote’s Barranco del Quiquere is free of charge, as it is a natural enclave open to anyone who wants to discover it.
Swimming in this cove is free, but if you want to do an activity such as scuba diving and you contract the plan with a company, that’s another matter. In that case, the cost will depend on the company you hire and the type of activity you do.
There is also the possibility of taking a boat trip to get to know the Barranco del Quiquere from a different point of view. The possibilities are very varied, as this is a place of unique beauty and with waters full of treasures to discover.
But if your intention is just to sunbathe and take a dip, you don’t have to pay anything!
