1 How to visit Timanfaya?

The island of Lanzarote has places of great natural beauty such as the Timanfaya National Park, a paradise classified as a Biosphere Reserve in the southwest of the island. Timanfaya National Park is a must on your next visit to the Canary Island, a unique opportunity to get to know the volcanic nature of Lanzarote and the history behind this magnificent landscape.

How to visit Timanfaya?

Timanfaya National Park is located between Yaiza and Tinajo. The good road communication makes it easy to reach Timanfaya itself by the LZ-67 road.

Can I visit Timanfaya on my own?

Timanfaya National Park, being a National Park, cannot be visited on foot. However, in case you want to visit Timanfaya on foot, there are two routes that can be done on foot: the Tremesana Route and the Coastal Route. However, it is necessary to bear in mind that neither of the two routes can be done with children under 16 years of age.

The Tremesan Route is 4 km long and lasts approximately three hours; the Coastal Route is approximately 9 km long or, if you prefer, you can do a 14 km circular route to see other volcanoes on the island.

Visiting Timanfaya by car

Accessing Timanfaya National Park by car is one of the best ways to get to the start of the visit. Following the LZ-67 road you can easily reach Timanfaya by following the road signs. Once in the park, you will have to get to the car park, which is well signposted at the entrance. Once there, you can start the usual route to Timanfaya by bus, or rather, by guagua.

Visiting the Timanfaya National Park by camel is one of the most impressive and fun ways of getting to know the place. Without a doubt, a unique experience if you are travelling with children.

If you are thinking of visiting the park by camel, the perfect place to start is El Echadero de Los Camellos, which is located between Yaiza and Timanfaya, approximately at kilometre 16 of the LZ-67.

If you would like to learn more about the values and history of the Timanfaya National Park, it is possible to take a special route with highly qualified guides. Furthermore, the tours take place in groups of only a few people and prior reservation is necessary.

If you prefer to enter Timanfaya with a “normal” entrance ticket, you should know that the Timanfaya National Park is open from 9:30am to 3:45pm every day and the last bus tour leaves at 3:45pm.
