Which are the best beaches for dogs in Lanzarote?
There are two beaches in Lanzarote where you can take your dog, what do you need to know about them?
- Las Coloradas beach. Also known as El Afre beach, it is located in the municipality of Yaiza, in the south of the island. Of its 400 metres, 150 are dog-friendly. It is very important to respect the rules for pets in order to preserve the beach: do not feed your dog on the beach, respect other bathers, pick up after your dog… In short, the logical thing to do. There is also a time limit for pets: in the morning from 07:00 to 10:00 and in the afternoon from 19:00 to 21:00, but check before you go.
- Guacimeta Beach. This beach is located in the town of Playa Honda, very close to the airport. It has a lot more services than the previous one, but is just as quiet. If you prefer, you can travel around the island by bus, although there are certain restrictions if you choose this option. Unless it is a guide dog, animals are normally only allowed up to a maximum of 10kg and only in a carrier. They cannot occupy a seat. In addition to all these restrictions, intercity buses run less frequently and often do not reach every corner of the city.
Is travel insurance for dogs compulsory?
Before travelling to Lanzarote with a dog, it is essential that you have all the necessary documentation in order and in force. Remember that the recognition chip is compulsory and that you must have the health card filled in and/or the dog passport in force. Likewise, you must have had the rabies vaccination for at least one month before the trip so that it has already taken effect.
What about travel insurance? It is not compulsory, but it is advisable to take out civil liability insurance to cover any possible damage your pet may cause to third parties. However, it will depend on the means of transport and the company you choose as to whether it is compulsory to take out specific travel insurance for your dog.
Plane or boat?
You have two options for travelling to Lanzarote with your dog: by plane or by boat. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
- Plane. In general, there is no problem travelling to Lanzarote with your dog. You will need the obligatory documents (chip, health certificate, vaccination certificate) and you will have to comply with the airline’s requirements. For example, you may have to carry your pet in the hold if it exceeds a certain weight or your fare may be increased. Also remember that seats on pet-friendly planes are often limited, so plan your trip well in advance.
- By boat. Travelling to Lanzarote with a dog by boat is usually less restricted than by plane, and there are even shipping companies that offer special seats for pets. The documentation required is also the same. However, although it can be a comfortable option and there is usually space to walk with your pet, consider their needs before choosing one means of transport or another.
With all this information, you can now plan your holiday in Lanzarote with your dog to make the most of a few days of relaxation with your pet. Remember that you have a lot of plans to make.
