Places of interest in the village
Visit Las Salinas de los Agujeros: To the south of Los Cocoteros we find these spectacular salt pans. They were created in the 1930’s. They are one of the few active salt pans in Lanzarote. In the past, Lanzarote had a powerful salt industry, but nowadays its activity has declined. In the case of the Salinas de los Agujeros, only one of them is still active. If you come to visit them you can see the white contrasts of salt, reddish water and black volcanic rock.
El bañadero de Guatiza: At the entrance of Los Cocoteros, you will find a sheltered place to bathe peacefully under the protection of the waves. You will have to wait for high tide to enjoy it and swim in it.
There is a monument in memory of the people who lost their lives on a patera (a small boat). As an anecdote, and although it was a tragic event, you can visit the memorial that the people of Los Cocoteros built at the end of the urbanisation. On 15 February 2009, a boat was shipwrecked and 27 people died. Fortunately one of the neighbours jumped into the water and saved 6 survivors.
Other places of interest
La Cueva del agua: walking north of Los Cocoteros in the direction of Charco del Palo, you can find a beautiful cave, a small lake separated from the sea, but connected underneath. A perfect bathing area when the sea is calm and the water is clean and blue. When the waves are strong, the bathing area becomes a perfect place to contemplate and photograph, as bathing is very dangerous.
On the way to La Caleta: A small cove ideal for a very tempting swim. You will find it to the south of Los Cocoteros once you have passed the salt flats.
If you want to go on an excursion to Guatiza or Charco del Palo, you should visit the villages closest to Los Cocoteros. The highlight of the area is the Cactus Garden in Guatiza and the natural pools in Charco del Palo.
Gastronomy and accommodation
Los Cocoteros has a teleclub, those local tascas where you can enjoy really good and cheap food. So now you know, stop by the Teleclub de Los Cocoteros and delight yourself with their local dishes. If you want more options, La Tasca de Lita and La Arepera are the best rated restaurants in Guatiza (neighbouring village).
As for accommodation, there are numerous holiday flats throughout the urbanisation. If you are looking for a place to disconnect from absolutely everything, right next to La Cueva del Agua you will find El buen Retiro.
