Airports are usually dull places where the waits are long and boring. But there is always an exception, and Lanzarote airport is one of them, making travelling a fascinating experience at its Airport Museum.
This tourist attraction, located in the first passenger terminal on the island aims to show visitors the aviation history of Lanzarote, as well as the impact this has had on the island’s economy and way of life. It is a space where curiosity and knowledge go hand in hand providing tourists with an entertaining stop off. Don’t forget to visit!
Model airplanes from different eras, photographs of Lanzarote’s growing aviation history, items of interest… The Airport Museum has endless attractions for you to enjoy, especially if you are travelling as a family and want your children to have fun and learn at the same time by using the digital devices and other activities on offer.
The Lanzarote Airport Museum is home to more than just aviation collections. Here you can see two wonderful pieces of art: a mural by the Belgian artist Jean P. Hock and a creation by César Manrique called Lanzarote.
The latter reflects the social reality on the island during the 1950s and can be found beside an exhibition hall that shows the work of local, national, and international artists.
By the Museum is the Environmental hall, comprised of four spaces dedicated to earth, wind, fire and water. There are lots of activities for children and teenagers held here to make them more aware of the environment.
Sustainable campaigns have been developed here in order to promote a respect for nature through entertaining and fun activities.
The Lanzarote Airport Museum has another great attraction for those interested in visiting: free admission for everyone. Along with its convenient location at the airport, this makes it a great option for a day out.
In terms of opening times, the Museum opens its doors every day of the week except for Sunday, from 10:00 to 14:00, so it is best to arrive in the morning. You can also have a guided tour in two languages by booking in advance. These tours are adapted to the age range of the visiting party.
The Airport Museum does not have a restaurant or cafe, but its location at Lanzarote Airport means that it doesn’t need these. It is a great place to go for travellers who can visit the Museum and then have breakfast or lunch in the Airport, where there is a range of restaurants or cafés to choose from.
