AvailabilityLanzarote has a wealth of beaches, cuisine, culture, tradition, and history. So much history. And the best place to discover it is in Arrecife, at the History Museum where you can go back in time to see the past of this island from prehistoric times to the modern day.
Would you like to find out more? Well, pack your bags and get on your way to this charming city, the capital and cultural hub of Lanzarote.
The Museum of the History of Arrecife was opened in 1972 to give an insight into Lanzarote’s past, showing items and collections that date back throughout the island’s history. It has a notable military exhibition, where you can see the items used to defend Lanzarote in the past.
The Museum of the History of Arrecife is found inside the old San Gabriel Castle, located on a little islet that can only be accessed via a picturesque bridge. This fortress is also commonly referred to as Castle Island.
The bridge between Arrecife and the Castle is known as Puente de las Bolas and is a declared as a Bien de Interés Cultural along with the castle itself, where you can find the museum. Both the bridge and castle create a picturesque scene that would not look out of place on a postcard or in a photograph.
Do you want to visit the Museum of the History of Arrecife? If the answer is yes, then you are in luck, because this tourist attraction has free admission for all those tourists who visit.
You can visit from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00. It may also be open on Sundays if there is a cruise ship due in.
Arrecife has a wide range of restaurants where you can try typical Canary Island dishes. Enjoy a grand day out here on your visit to the History Museum with a nice lunch or dinner at one of the traditional restaurants that you can find close to this tourist attraction. What a great plan!
