Castle of San José - MIAC

The Castillo de San José is overflowing with art. It hosts constant exhibitions and conferences, as well as other events. It is a place where culture shines through, with an historic backdrop. The Castillo de San José is a fort which was built between 1776 and 1779 by Charles III of Spain. 

Almost 250 years later, this place has become one of Lanzarote’s most iconic tourist attractions after César Manrique decided to host art exhibitions here. As ever, the Lanzarote artist saw the place’s beauty before anyone else and turned the space into an area of unprecedented splendour.

International Contemporary Art Museum (MIAC)

Visiting the Castillo de San José and not going into the MIAC is almost a punishable crime. The Museum has two floors, one dedicated to Canary Island artists and Pancho Lasso, another noteworthy Lanzarote artist, and a second floor which is used for temporary exhibitions. The second floor is designed to reflect on contemporary art.

The opening times of the International Contemporary Art Museum are from 10:00 – 18:00. If you only want to visit the Castillo de San José and decide the eat at the restaurant there you’ll have free entry, and the following opening hours shall apply: from Wednesday to Saturday (12:30 – 23:30) and from Sundays to Tuesdays (11:00 – 18:00).

Grabbing something to eat at the Castillo de San José is an excellent choice for those visiting this tourist attraction. It has a bar-café and a quaint restaurant where you can have lunch or dinner on its glazed terrace with views over the bay of Arrecife. What more could you ask for?
