Do you want to know the real Lanzarote? You can do so by visiting the Campesino House Museum and the Monumento al Campesino (Monument to the Peasant), where the local artist César Manrique wanted to depict the magnificent work of the local islanders to bring to life the Lanzarote landscape, despite having to withstand highly adverse conditions. Discover the island’s traditions and essences at this tourist attraction.

What to see at the Monumento al Campesino?

The Monumento al Campesino is beside the Campesino House Museum and takes visitors on a journey through the traditional architecture, agriculture, crafts, and cuisine of Lanzarote. The two following sites are well worth seeing on your visit:

Campesino House Museum

Based in an old farmhouse, the House Museum has items and collections which are steeped in the history of Lanzarote, with special attention paid to the tools used by those who worked on the land in very difficult conditions, and with very dry earth.

At this site there are also noteworthy crafts workshops held where you can learn to knit or mould clay, among other activities.

Monumento al Campesino or a la Fecundidad

The Monumento al Campesino, also known as the Monumento a la Fecundidad, is a homage by César Manrique to all those farmers and workers whose efforts helped to build Lanzarote.

It is an avant-garde piece of work, created with water tanks from old fishing boats, and is a real surprise for those tourists who come to see it.
