Excursions in Yaiza

It is impossible to talk about the excursions in Yaiza without mentioning the Timanfaya National Park. A part of this natural monument belongs to this municipality located in the southern part of Lanzarote. That is why it is an ideal destination for people looking for a physical challenge and an environment away from the hustle and bustle of the big urban centers.

The great attraction of Yaiza is undoubtedly Timanfaya. As soon as you enter the National Park, you will find the chain of volcanoes known as the Fire Mountains. At its end is the Islote de Hilario, a restaurant-viewpoint overlooking the entire park. You also have the possibility to take a short camel ride along some of the main volcanoes.

On the other hand, if you prefer the sea, you also have some routes to enjoy the Atlantic. For example, the salt flats of Janubio are located in the western part of the island, an area where the coast has formed small inland lakes with a high concentration of salt. A little further north is Los Hervideros, where the sea collides violently with the rocky wall creating foam and giving the sensation of boiling water. Not to be forgotten is Charco de los Clicos, next to the charming little fishing village of El Golfo.

There is also another natural monument in the southeastern part of the island, perhaps less known, but no less spectacular. The Ajaches are a mountain range formed about 15 million years ago, making it one of the oldest parts of the island. Walking along its narrow paths you can reach virgin coves such as La Casa, La Fuentecita or Parrado, making a perfect mix between sports tourism, sun and beach.
