Carnival is a time of riotous fun and revelry and provides a wonderful excuse to escape from monotonous daily routine, ditch our everyday attire and have some incredible fun.
CARNIVAL HOME COMING SOON - Shrove Tuesday: 24 of February 2009

The carnival is defined as a public celebration that takes place immediately before the Christian Lent, with a date variable that can range from late January until early March depending on the year. This festival combines some elements that make it unmistakable, as costumes, parades and festivities on the street. It was also well known to some festivals of a similar nature at any stage of the year. Despite many of the big differences that presents its celebration throughout the world, a common characteristic is to be a period of permissiveness and some slippage.



Here are the updated programmes of the various carnivals of the island.
MONDAY, 23th FEBRUARY
17:00h. Grand Carnival Parade. Starting at the Ciudad Deportiva and ending at the Cabildo Zone
TUESDAY, 24th FEBRUARY
Shrove Tuesday.
20.00h: Batucada Show at the Recinto Ferial, Arrecife.
WEDNESDAY, 25th FEBRUARY
18:00h. The "Entierro de La Sardina" ( The Burial of the Sardines) and fireworks.
THURSDAY, 26th FEBRUARY
20,30 pm. Performance by the carnival groups: “Los Gruñones”, “Chimbay”, “Timanfeiros” and the ballet “Ya Tú Sabes” at the Beach Avenue (opposite Mc Donald’s).
FRIDAY, 27th FEBRUARY
20,30 pm.- Grand Gala performance by the carnival groups: “Guaracheros” and “Sur Caliente”, at the Beach Avenue (opposite Mc Donald’s).
After the performance, open-air dance by orchestras “Kuarta Potencia” and “Banda Nueva”.
SATURDAY, 28th FEBRUARY
17,00 pm.- Carnival Parade at the Beach Avenue, starting from Fariones Playa Hotel and ending at the Italia Avenue.
21,00 pm.- Open-air dance by orchestras “Kuarta Potencia”, “Banda Nueva” and “Rika Banda”, at the Beach Avenue (opposite Mc Donald’s)
SUNDAY, 1st MARCH
18,00 pm.- Children’s Carnival at the municipal Hall Unión Sur in Tías.
FROM 9th TO 15th MARCH
