What is the Valley of a Thousand Palms and why is it famous?
The Valley of a Thousand Palms in Lanzarote is one of the best palm groves of native palm trees in the Canary archipelago, although it is also home to other tropical species such as cactus and the prickly pear.
Due to its rainy microclimate, the area is very fertile, which makes the Valley of a Thousand Palms emerge as an oasis amidst Lanzarote’s own geology.
Ecological and cultural importance
The area is home to most of the island’s native flora, as well as the greenest lands, hence the ecological value of the Valley of a Thousand Palms.
But this location is also well known because Haría is home to the César Manrique House Museum, which is situated in the middle of the palm grove. The local artist lived in these beautiful natural surroubndings until his death in 1992 and in 2013 it was opened to the public to show what his residence and his workshop were like.
