What plans can I make in Lanzarote without a car?
Do you think that by travelling to Lanzarote without a car you will have to stay in the same place and you will not be able to discover its wonderful landscapes? Well it’s not true! The island is perfectly positioned to bring you the best it has to offer, allowing you to get from one side to another without renting a vehicle. Here are a few ideas that prove it.
Bear in mind that Lanzarote is not a very large island, barely measuring 75 kilometres from end to end. The close vicinity to things increases your options to be able to visit different municipalities without any problem.
- If you decide to travel by bus (or guagua as it is called here), the best connections are in the capital, Arrecife. From here you can get to almost any part of the island, but you will have to pay close attention to the timetables.
- From the capital you can also get around by bicycle (there are many companies that rent them). You can go on different bike rides to other municipalities without too much effort.
- Walking from one municipality to another is no odyssey either. Whilst it is true you may not be able to walk all over the island, you can easily go on a pleasant walk from one municipality to another, passing through a promenade or a beach, for example.
Municipalities that can be visited by bus, bicycle or on foot
If you are coming to Lanzarote without a car, the best thing to do is to choose somewhere to stay that is well located and has good communication links to get around by public transport, by bicycle or even on foot to the surrounding villages.
From the capital you can visit wonderful municipalities such as Arrecife, Órzola, Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Famara or Teguise.
Beaches that can be visited without car
There are many reasons to come to Lanzarote for your holiday. One of them is naturally to discover the island’s white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, some of which are located in the middle of volcanic landscapes.
The good news is that you don’t need a car to explore some of the most impressive beaches on the island. These include Playa de El Reducto, Playa del Castillo de San Gabriel and Playa del Cable, and they are all in Arrecife. Therefore, if you stay in the capital, you can walk or take a bike to any one of them.
You can also visit La Concha Beach (Playa Honda), Matagorda Beach (Puerto del Carmen), Jablillo Beach (Costa Teguise) or Las Cucharas Beach (Costa Teguise), as all of them can be reached by bus.
Organised excursions
The other option you have when exploring Lanzarote without a car is to book excursions to some of the most interesting places on the island.
You can take a tour of Lanzarote, get to know the north or the south of the island, visit Timanfaya, see whales and dolphins, discover the work of César Manrique, have a ride in a buggy or a 4×4, discover the vineyards and the most famous wineries, visit the island of La Graciosa, swim in the best beaches, take a ferry and see Lanzarote from another perspective… The alternatives available to you are endless!
