The municipality of Tinajo is located on the central west side of the island. This means that much of its environment and landscape is completely volcanic due to the eruptions that took place there hundreds of years ago. In fact, Tinajo is known as the “gateway to the Timanfaya National Park”, due to its close proximity to the park.

Tinajo is located to the north of this volcanic landscape and is one of the island’s most visited tourist spots throughout the year. As it is in one of Lanzarote’s most touristic areas, there are plenty of things to do in Tinajo.

It goes without saying that in Tinajo you can visit several volcanos and do a range of different hiking trails to explore the extraordinary landscape. The trails up the Montaña Colorada volcano or to Caldera Blanca are two of the routes favoured by hikers

Of course, if you are staying in Tinajo, you have to visit Timanfaya National Park and explore the nearby Islote de Hilario!
